Some days are filled with happy energy, some are a little less positively vibrated. And there is nothing wrong with that. Not all days need to be ‘the perfect happy day’. It’s totally ok to feel a little less great sometimes. This way you can feel even more grateful for the moments that are magical. Besides that, most lessons get learned at the moments where you get challenged. And feeling less great and still making the best out of it, that can be a challenge. An amazing one. UNLESS you let yourself get carried away with it, with those negative feelings because then it will not serve you any good at all anymore. If you let yourself get carried away with that less positive feeling and you let yourself get swallowed by negative thoughts and emotions, then you are creating your own negative spiral. Then you are the person that is responsible for your own unhappiness. Because, even though you can’t change what is happening around you like bad luck, other people’s opinions, specific circumstances,…. You CAN always change or control how you choose to respond to it. And yes, it’s not always a SIMPLE task to do, but it’s all a matter of being aware of your own behavior and the power of choice.

Everyone can do this, therefore so can YOU. You have a choice in how you want to look at life, how you want to respond to life and how much gratitude that you want to feel for what you do have. But there are some tricks when it comes to increasing your happy level… think about yoga, walking in nature, going on a holiday, and so much more. And then there is a very important one as well that many tend to forget. The power of ‘Happy Food Boosters’
What I do want to mention is that I will only focus on healthy happy food boosters. I’m not going to focus on foods who give you a temporary mood boost because of addictive flavors or high sugar levels. I’m more a fan of healthy foods who increase your overall health and therefore your overall happiness level.
Avocado is rich in Tryptophan, the essential amino acid that causes the release of serotonin, the neurotransmitter that increases your happy level. Also, avocado’s are hugely healthy for many reasons. It’s good for your skin, hair, nails, overall health, happiness, and wellbeing. So, learn to love those avocado’s, everyone.
Berries are rich in flavonoid. And flavonoid helps to increase your happy level. Besides that, it also has many other positive mental and physical benefits like improving your memory or digestion system. Next to that, aren’t they just so delicious as well?
This one does contain a little bit more sugar but it’s still a very healthy option. Dark chocolate contains the ingredient tryptophan, a substance that causes the release of serotonin. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that produces a feeling of happiness. If you want to go for the healthiest and most beneficial options, you should pick dark chocolate with a cacao level from 70% or higher. These ones are a bit less sweet and more bitter. Still, to me, they are my favorites.
These greens are rich in magnesium. And magnesium plays a huge role in increasing your overall mood. Also, spinach and kale contain folate, a B-vitamin which boosts serotine creations. So time to get those greens in your system.
Nuts, in general, are a really healthy food choice. Cashew nuts, pecan, almond, walnuts,… they all come with so many benefits. These contain so many healthy fats and anti-oxidants. A real health boost. Both for your physical as well as your mental health. Also, these nuts contain calcium which can help stabilize the hormone imbalances in women. Next to that it also helps with anxiety, depression or stress.
